The Theresa Academy of Performing Arts (TAPA) was the very grateful recipient of a community grant from Autism Speaks this past January!
The $5,000 grant was awarded to our after school program:” After School in the Arts—After- care with a Flair”. This program has been in existence since 2009, and has been slowly growing and gaining in popularity among the parents of children with special needs in the surrounding community. The grant enabled us to award scholarships to five young students (with Autism/ASD) so that they could attend on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
The program consisted of Art, Music, Tap/Ballet, African dance and drumming and Yoga classes, and ran from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. We hope to continue the program in the Fall of 2016.
Mr. Edward Russo of the Long Island Chapter of Autism Speaks, visited our classes and met our faculty. He was so impressed that he is bringing additional staff down to take a tour of TAPA!
